Who We Are

About the ETPA

Mission, Purpose & Vision

What we stand for

Mission

The mission of the ETPA is to renovate, preserve and operate the historic Egyptian Theatre as a performing arts and entertainment center.

Purpose

The purpose of the ETPA, as a nonprofit corporation, is to restore, maintain, operate, and preserve the historic Egyptian Theatre.

Vision

The vision of the ETPA is for generations to come seeing an operational and vibrant Egyptian Theatre that beckons people downtown from the broader community, and provide a multi-use community gathering place where people can have fun and participate in a living part of local history.
Our Work

What we do

Day to day, the association’s work falls into four connected jobs, all of them carried out by volunteers and the people who love this theatre.

Operate the theatre

We run the Egyptian day to day (the box office, the concessions stand, and the events on the calendar) so the doors stay open to the public.

Preserve the building

We steward the 1925 landmark and its Egyptian Revival details, from the marquee lights to the plaster pharaohs, caring for it the way a century-old movie palace deserves.

Program the stage

We bring in films, live shows, concerts, and community events, a mix that keeps the Egyptian a lively part of downtown Coos Bay.

Raise the funds

Memberships, donations, and grants cover the real cost of an old building. Gifts keep the theatre safe, beautiful, and open.

How It Works

How the ETPA works

The City of Coos Bay purchased the Egyptian Theatre in 2006 and owns the building today. The ETPA has operated it under agreement with the city ever since.

Working alongside the community, the association led the restoration that returned the theatre to the public and reopened its doors in 2014. You can follow that whole story on our history page.

The ETPA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit run by a volunteer board of directors and a corps of community volunteers. Members elect the board, so anyone who joins helps shape the theatre’s future. Meet the people who lead it on our leadership page.
