Plan Your Visit

Visiting & tickets

How do I buy tickets or see what’s playing?

All showtimes, events, and ticket sales live on our box-office site, egyptiantheatre.events. This site (etpaoregon.org) is the home of the nonprofit behind the theatre: its history, restoration, and ways to support the Egyptian.

Where is the Egyptian Theatre?

229 S. Broadway, in the heart of downtown Coos Bay, Oregon 97420. There’s a map on our contact page.

What are your hours?

The theatre opens for scheduled films, concerts, and events, so box-office and lobby hours vary by what’s on. The best place to check is the current schedule at egyptiantheatre.events. For anything else, call or text 541-808-8295.

Where do I park?

Free parking is easy to find within a short walk of 229 S. Broadway. There’s free street parking along S Broadway, Central Avenue, and S 2nd Street (watch for 2-hour limits), plus free, unmetered public lots behind the Broadway and Central businesses, all a 1–3 minute walk from the theatre. If downtown is full, park free at the Coos Bay Boardwalk lots on S Bayshore Drive and walk 2–3 blocks west. Have specific access needs? Call ahead at 541-808-8295 and we’ll help.

Are there concessions?

Popcorn, candy, and drinks are served at the counter during events. Members get 15% off concessions (alcohol not included).

Can I tour the theatre?

You can take our room-by-room self-guided tour right here on the site, drawn from the ETPA’s tour materials. For an in-person or group visit, reach out and we’ll let you know what’s possible.

Join & Benefits

Membership

Why become a member?

Membership is one of the best ways to support the theatre year-round. Every member gets $1 off regular ticket prices, 15% off concessions (alcohol excluded), a subscription to our newsletter, voting privileges at annual meetings, and a membership card. Because members elect the board, joining also gives you a voice in the theatre’s future.

What are the membership levels?

Everyday levels: Senior/Disabled/Student/Military $25, Single $30, and Family $60 a year. The named Supporter Circle levels recognize a larger annual gift: Sphinx $75, Pharaoh $100, Cleopatra $250, King Tut $500, Pyramid $1,000, and the lifetime Golden Pyramid $5,000. Every level carries the same core member benefits, and Family and every Supporter Circle level cover up to two adults in the same household plus their dependents. See them all on the membership page.

When does the membership year run?

The membership year runs January 1 to December 31.

How do I join?

Three ways: online through the secure form on our membership page (we use Zeffy, which is fee-free, so 100% of your membership reaches the theatre); by phone at 541-808-8295; or by mail, with a check payable to the Egyptian Theatre Preservation Association, 229 S. Broadway, Coos Bay, OR 97420.

Is my membership tax-deductible?

The ETPA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Because membership comes with benefits (ticket and concession discounts, etc.), the deductible portion may be limited. Check with your tax advisor about your specific situation.

Ways to Give

Donations & support

How do I make a donation?

Click Donate in the header, from any page, and a secure Zeffy donation form opens right there, no need to navigate away. You can give any amount, one time or monthly. You can also give by phone or mail; see all the options on the donate page.

Does 100% of my gift reach the theatre?

We collect gifts through Zeffy, which is fee-free for nonprofits, so your full donation goes to the ETPA. At checkout, Zeffy may invite you to add an optional tip that supports Zeffy. That tip is entirely separate from your gift and completely optional.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

The ETPA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so gifts may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and Zeffy issues your receipt. Consult your tax advisor for your specific situation.

What will my gift help fund?

Beyond day-to-day operations, the ETPA has identified six major capital projects for the theatre’s next century: sealing the back wall, finishing the balcony’s restoration, upgrading the rigging, leveling the stage, adding backstage facilities for performers, and preserving the Mighty Wurlitzer. See the campaign on the restoration page.

Can I give in memory or honor of someone?

Memorial and tribute gifts are warmly welcomed. Contact us and we’ll help you arrange it.

Who We Are

The organization

What is the ETPA?

The Egyptian Theatre Preservation Association is the volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit that restores, preserves, and operates the historic 1925 Egyptian Theatre. Learn more about the ETPA.

Is “the ETPA” the same as the theatre?

Not quite. The Egyptian Theatre is the 1925 movie palace itself; the ETPA is the nonprofit organization that cares for it and runs its programs. This website is the organization’s home; the box office and event calendar are on egyptiantheatre.events.

How is the ETPA governed?

By a volunteer board of directors elected by the membership, supported by a corps of community volunteers. You can meet the board and staff and read the association’s governance policy.

How old is the theatre?

The Egyptian opened in 1925 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its full story, from vaudeville-and-film house to community landmark, is on our interactive history timeline.

The 1925 Landmark

The building & the Wurlitzer

What is the Mighty Wurlitzer?

It’s the theatre’s 1925 Wurlitzer pipe organ, the same instrument that accompanied silent films when the Egyptian opened. Volunteer organists still play it today. Read about it on the Wurlitzer page.

What restoration work is happening now?

The ETPA’s next phase focuses on six capital projects: sealing the back wall, finishing the balcony, upgrading the rigging, leveling the stage, adding backstage facilities for performers, and preserving the Wurlitzer. Details are on the restoration page.

Is the back wall structurally failing?

No. The building’s earlier structural settlement was fully resolved in 2013 with new piles and strongbacks. The current back-wall project addresses water leaking through the concrete: a preservation issue, not a stability one.

Get Involved

Volunteering

How can I volunteer?

The Egyptian runs on volunteers: ushers and greeters, box office and concessions, projection and tech, Wurlitzer care, restoration and upkeep, and events. See the roles on the volunteer page, then get in touch to get started.

Do I need experience?

Not at all. It takes a little time and a love for the place. Whether you can give a few hours now and then or want a regular role, there’s a spot for you.
